What do DNA Sequencing and Engineered Building Materials have in common?

They are both topics in the recently released DHS SBIR FY 08.2 Phase I Solicitation.

The Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology SBIR Program announced the release of the 08.2 Phase I solicitation on May 1st.  Four topics were announced and are listed below.  Proposals are due June 27, 2008 at 4:30 EST.  Questions addressed to the TPOC (Technical Point of Contact) may be made between May 1 and May 23.  Budgets less than $100,000 may be requested. 

  1. Engineered Building Materials
  2. Innovative Educational Environments to Develop the Necessary Intellectual Basis for a National DHS S&T Workforce
  3. High Speed DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) Sequencing for Environmental Sample Biological Threat Detection, Identification, and Support for Attribution;
  4. Telecommunications Linking System
