The NIH Conference Comes to Atlanta
Early-stage life science and biotech companies crave cash. Not a unique problem, but because of the ridged testing requirements and lengthy timelines, many would argue that life science and biotech start-up companies require more capital investment than companies in any other industry. So where do companies get this cash? Think SBIR. SBIR grants are an essential source of early-stage funding—especially those awards coming from the NIH.
While eleven agencies participate in the SBIR Program, the NIH (National Institutes of Health) has the biggest pot of funds available for science and biotech companies (and technologies that affect these industries). Unfortunately, obtaining these awards of $850,000+ is not a simple transaction for every company. Without proper understanding of NIH’s SBIR proposal process, applying (and actually receiving) can be a overwhelming.
Fortunately, help is on the way!
The NIH will be holding their National SBIR/STTR Conference in Atlanta this July 22nd-23rd. Representatives from all the NIH institutes will be on hand to meet one-on-one with companies (and potential companies) about their research and potential technologies. Sessions on proposal instruction, university start-ups, commercialization assistance will also be included as well as a poster session which will give past awardees the opportunity to present their developed technologies.
